This house is Not In My Backyard in Mänttä

Drone is the third Realm of Fine Arts exhibition in Mänttä-Vilppula, Finland. It brings together the works of fourteen recently graduated artists from all six Finnish universities of applied sciences teaching fine arts.

The exhibition borrows its name from a musical genre that emphasizes the use of sustained sounds, notes, or tone clusters. In this context Drone can be understood as an invitation to slow down, reflect and go deep.

The curator of the exhibition is Ilari Laamanen.

The exhibition is open from 9 June to 20 August every day from 10 am to 6 pm. Seppälän puistotie 7, Mänttä.

"My installation This house is Not In My Backyard, 2023 is a body of work that explores the built environment, domesticity, concepts of space and authorship. An interstitial or non-space is formed. It is remote but familiar, cold but cosy, outside but inside. The works are place-curious, viewer-curious and maker-curious (cf. -specific).

The works also suggest, through their forms, questions about the presentation, viewing and consumption of art: on the sofa you can lean back comfortably, loving or hating what you see, and set your drink on the table just as you would at home."
